Prayer Room in Lumajang Serves Café-Style Coffee to Accompany Congregational Tadarus
Al Makna Prayer Room in Lumajang introduces a unique program serving premium café-style coffee during tadarus, helping worshippers stay focused while creating a welcoming environment for the community.
LUMAJANG – For many people, tadarus (reciting the Qur’an) and coffee are no longer two things that simply meet by coincidence, but rather a small ecosystem of calm and focus.
Coffee helps wash away sleepiness from tired eyes, ensuring every pronunciation of the Qur’anic verses is recited clearly and precisely. Meanwhile, the sacred verses fill the inner space that neither the bitterness nor sweetness of coffee can reach.
If tadarus is a spiritual journey reaching toward the heavens, then a cup of coffee becomes the anchor that keeps the body grounded and alert.
Tadarus becomes even more special with the presence of premium café-style coffee that makes the congregation more comfortable while reciting the holy Qur’an.
Usually, tadarus is accompanied by simple instant coffee served in a kettle. However, at Al Makna Prayer Room located in Citrodiwangsan Village, Lumajang District, Lumajang Regency, East Java, the management provides modern café-style coffee for the worshippers who come.
Not only serving warm drinks, the congregation can also watch the coffee brewing process directly.
This includes introducing selected coffee beans, grinding them using a manual grinder, and brewing them using the V60 method, which is popular among coffee enthusiasts.
In addition to V60 coffee, there are also flavored drinks such as butterscotch and choco vanilla latte, which are popular among teenagers and children.
Bahtiar Muhakiki, one of the administrators of Al Makna Prayer Room, said that the program is held every Wednesday and Saturday night.
He explained that the idea is to bring a café-like atmosphere to the prayer room so worshippers feel comfortable spending more time there for worship.
“Our hope is that by providing the best coffee for the guests of God, we can also gain blessings and spread kindness,” Bahtiar said in Lumajang on Wednesday (March 4, 2026).
According to him, black coffee without sugar also has several benefits, including helping to improve focus.
He hopes that with premium coffee available, worshippers can concentrate more during Tarawih prayers, tadarus, and i’tikaf.
“Hopefully after drinking this coffee, the congregation can be more focused during worship. So it’s not only about the taste, but also the experience and the benefits for the body,” he added.
Muhammad Adam, one of the worshippers, admitted he was happy with the free café-style coffee program at the prayer room where he usually performs Tarawih prayers.
According to him, besides offering a new experience, the café-style coffee encourages young people like himself to come to the prayer room more often.
“The coffee tastes great, drinking it while doing tadarus keeps you from getting sleepy, and you can refill it as much as you want, so it makes us more enthusiastic to recite the Qur’an,” Adam said.
