Collaboration Between KKN UNS 178 and Kopi Parang Greens Giri Tembesi Village Through the “One Coffee, One Tree” Program
Through the “One Coffee, One Tree” initiative, students from Universitas Sebelas Maret and Solo-based Kopi Parang combine business and environmental responsibility. Each coffee purchase contributes to tree planting in West Lombok, supporting climate mitigation, biodiversity protection, and sustainable village development.
Group 178 of the Community Service Program (KKN) from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta has initiated a strategic environmental action in Giri Tembesi Village, Gerung District, West Lombok Regency. Through an innovative program titled “One Coffee, One Tree,” students collaborated with Solo-based coffee shop Kopi Parang to carry out sustainable tree planting as a concrete step toward mitigating the climate crisis.
The program adopts a unique socio-environmental responsibility model: every cup of coffee sold at Kopi Parang is converted into one tree seedling planted in Giri Tembesi Village. The mass planting action was successfully conducted on Friday, February 6, 2026.
KKN UNS Group 178 Leader Abraham Wira explained that the initiative was designed as a direct contribution to the global SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land) targets.
“We are not only planting trees, but also building a climate defense at the village level. Through this inter-island collaboration, we implement SDG 13 by naturally absorbing carbon emissions, and SDG 15 by rehabilitating land to prevent soil degradation in West Lombok,” Abraham emphasized.
For seedling provision, KKN UNS 178 partnered with the Mandalika Nursery Center in Central Lombok. The selected tree species—Mahogany and White Teak—were chosen for their high adaptability and long-term ecological benefits, helping preserve biodiversity and strengthen soil structure in Giri Tembesi Village.
Mas Einstein, owner of Kopi Parang, welcomed the collaboration. According to him, the initiative proves that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can drive the green economy.
“We want every sip of coffee our customers enjoy to have a real impact on preserving land ecosystems in areas that need it,” he said.
The planting activity involved village officials and local residents to ensure the sustainability of the planted seedlings. Through synergy between academia, business actors, and government institutions, Giri Tembesi Village is expected to become greener, more productive, and more resilient to climate change in the future.
Group 178 is part of the community service program of Universitas Sebelas Maret, focusing on village development and environmental preservation in the West Nusa Tenggara region.
Meanwhile, Kopi Parang is a coffee shop based in Solo, Central Java, owned by Mas Einstein, committed to both quality coffee and positive social impact.
